How to Create a Data Entry Account (iPhone & Android)

Please watch Video 1 (password: smokealarm) while reading the below instructions. Pause as needed.

Step 1: Register on REDCap

To create as an installer:

1. Register as an installer on REDCap using the Registration Link.

2. Save your confirmation email – you will need it later.

   • This email will include your QR code.

Step 2: Download the MyCap App

1. Open the App Store (iPhone) or Google Play Store (Android) on your phone.

2. Search for “MyCap”.

   1. The icon looks like this:  ​

3. Download the app.

   • iPhone users: tap Get, on the right hand side.

   • Android user: tap Install.

4. Once the download is complete, tap Open.

5. When prompted, choose whether to Allow or Don’t Allow notifications.

Step 3: Set Up Your Profile

1. Tap Profile, then tap the pencil icon next to My Profile.

   1. ***Do not enter data before creating a profile***

2. Enter the following:

   1. Username: Your email address.

   2. Password: A numeric password you will remember.

      1. ***Write down your password and keep it in a safe place***

3. Tap Save Changes.

Step 4: Join the Project

1. Tap Join Project.

2. Tap Scan QR Code.

   1. ***Your QR code was sent to you in the REDCap confirmation email***

3. When prompted, tap Allow access to your camera.

4. Use your phone’s camera to scan the QR code from your email.

   1. Point your camera at the confirmation email and align the QR code inside the white box on your screen.

5. Tap Next to join the Johns Hopkins Smoke Alarm Project’s data entry system as an installer.

6. Tap Next again and choose to Allow or Deny notifications on your phone.

7. Tap Done.

How to Enter Data in REDCap

Please watch Video 2 (password: smokealarm) while reading the below instructions. Pause as needed.

1. Tap Smoke Alarm Installation Tracking.

2. Enter your answers to the following eight required questions:

   1. Date of installation

   2. Number of working smoke alarms before visit

   3. Number of working CO alarms before visit

   4. Number of working combination smoke/co alarms before visit

   5. Number of smoke alarms installed

   6. Number of CO alarms or CO combination alarms installed

   7. Number of children under 18 living in the home

   8. Number of elders (age 60 and over) living in the home

3. Tap Done and then tap OK to submit your entry.

***Please keep the app open until a yellow banner comes up at the bottom of your screen saying your responses were sent***
